Northern Essex Community college has an established student records management policy that ensures the protection and security of all student records. The Registrar’s Office maintains in perpetuity the confidentiality, integrity, and security of all physical student academic records. All digital records are maintained and secured in accordance with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and U.S. Department of Education’s requirements for retention, disposal and proper handling of records.

Electronic student records are backed up nightly and are replicated to a disaster recovery site away from the main campus. Consistent with NECHE standards and other State and Federal requirements, NECC regularly updates its disaster planning and recovery policies and procedures as described in its written Information Security Policy.

Safeguarding Student Records in the Event of College Closure

In the event that Northern Essex Community College closes, arrangements would be made with the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education (MA DHE) and the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) to secure records and allow students access to their records. NECC would comply with the following requirements:

NECHE

Policy on Teach-Out Plans and Teach-Out Agreements

MA DHE

Institutional Transitions & Closures
