Two NECC volleyball players, Tiffany Gadd and Katelyn Demers, both from Haverhill, have been accepted to Western State College of Colorado where they hope to continue playing volleyball in a Division II program. Gadd will major in the college’s outdoor leadership program and Demers will major in theatre and performance studies. Gadd and Demers were both stand-out athletes at NECC and leaders for the Knights. For two years they were NJCAA all Region Players. Demers was team captain and selected to the NHTI all tournament team and the NJCAA Region XIX-XXI all tournament team.
The 2010 Parnassus, the NECC student literary and arts magazine, under the direction of NECC English professor Patrick Lochelt, was a finalist for the prestigious Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Collegiate Crown awards. It will be announced in March whether it received a silver or gold crown. This is the first time Parnassus received an honor from this organization. It places the magazine in the top 15 college literature magazines nationwide for both community colleges and universities. A total of 1,434 newspapers, magazines, and yearbooks published during the 2009-2010 academic year were eligible for judging in the 2011 Crown Awards Program. Gold Crowns have been awarded annually since 1982, and Silver Crowns have been given since 1984.
