Submitted by on March 15, 2011 – 12:00 pm

At its March 2 meeting, the college’s board of trustees voted to honor six retirees with emeritus status at the commencement on May 21.  Honorees will include:

  • Elaine Glennon, professor emerita of deaf & hard of hearing cluster
  • Angela Guarino, assistant dean emerita, academic support center (post humous)
  • Jane Nunes, director emerita, deaf & hard of hearing services
  • Joseph Rizzo, professor emeritus of behavioral sciences
  • Carol Wallace, professor emerita of radiologic technology
  • Dr. Elizabeth Wilcoxson, assistant dean emerita, humanities & social sciences

At Northern Essex, the rank of Emeritus is an honor that recognizes sustained excellence in performance, character and meritorious service to the college.  To be considered, candidates must have officially retired.  Each year the Emeritus Status Committee, which includes faculty and staff, makes recommendations to the president of the college.  Trustees have final approval.
