NECC’s Mullins Breaks School Record
Northern Essex Community College track star Olivia Mullins, of Plaistow, NH, broke a college record at the NJCAA National Championships held at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica last weekend.
The freshman elementary education major placed 10th at the NJCAA Track and Field Nationals running the 1500 meter with a time of 5:26.91. She broke a Northern Essex school record set 11 years ago in April of 2007 by Laura Rudd who ran it in 5:35.99.
Katelyn Richardson of Wilmington, a deaf studies major, who competed in the high jump, finished in a three-way tie for sixth place in the high jump as she cleared a height of 1.34 meters. She is the current school record holder in the event as she had cleared 1.42 meters earlier in the season.
Northern Essex competes as a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and sponsors eight varsity intercollegiate sports including baseball, men’s basketball, softball, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s track and field.
