NECC Plans “College for a Day” Event

Prospective students will have an opportunity to experience community college life this April when Northern Essex Community College hosts its annual “College for a Day,” on Wednesday, April 10, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Haverhill campus, 100 Elliott St.

This annual event, which is free and open to the public, is designed to give anyone interested in enrolling at Northern Essex an opportunity to live a day in the life of a community college student. Sit in on college-level courses, speak with current students, tour the campus, and meet with members of the admissions staff to learn about the NECC application process.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Linda Hummel-Shea ArtSpace Gallery in the Harold Bentley Library there will be a showing of the “Night Watch” episode of the popular television show “Madam Secretary,” followed by a discussion with writer/ producer and political advisor Alex Maggio. The episode depicts a dramatization of a false nuclear attack on the U.S. Maggio will discuss the use of television as a vehicle to raise awareness of political and social issues. It is free and open to the public

College for a Day coincides with the spring jam. Attendees are invited to engage in a range of games and crafts as well as enjoy live music, converse with faculty, staff, and students, and eat complimentary food options. Many of NECC’s student organizations will be on site with informational materials and giveaways. All are welcome to participate.
