NECC Expands Popular Paralegal Program

Submitted by on July 12, 2012 – 2:32 pm

Northern Essex Community College’s popular paralegal certificate program which has been offered on the Lawrence campus for more than 15 years will now also be offered in the evenings on the Haverhill campus beginning in the fall.

“We are excited to be able to expand our evening paralegal certificate program to the Haverhill Campus. With a full-time schedule, the paralegal certificate program can be completed in one year starting in September,” says Judith Pollock Ciampi, coordinator of the NECC paralegal program.

The Paralegal Program, which is approved by the American Bar Association, has been gaining interest over the past few years according to Pollock Ciampi.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics employment of paralegals is expected to grow by 18 percent through 2020.

Individuals interested in a career in law who enjoy reading, research, and writing might be interested in pursuing a career in the paralegal area. Paralegals assist lawyers in a wide range of duties including conducting research, writing drafts of legal documents interviewing clients, and providing administrative support.

A number of paralegal information sessions will be held this summer for anyone interested in any of Northern Essex’s paralegal certificate or associate degree programs. Sessions will be held Wednesdays, July 25, August, 8, August 22, and August 29 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Student Center Room SC 214 on the Haverhill campus. Two sessions will be held on the Lawrence campus on Wednesdays August 1 and 15 from noon to 1 p.m.

For information on these sessions contact Trish Butler at 978-738-7484 or t1butler@necc.mass.edu.
