In this guided workshop, participants will learn about equity-minded syllabus design, engage in self-reflective activities, and begin to apply six easy tweaks to an existing syllabus. During the workshop, participants will learn about and discuss a culturally and linguistically responsive inclusive pedagogy. Participants will then review their own course syllabi, including layout/design, course policies, grading, attendance, deadlines, student-friendly language, and alignment with contractual elements of the syllabus. Participants will reflect on clearly communicating values to students through the course syllabus. During the Summer, participants will work to revise their syllabi. They will send the first drafts of their syllabi to the facilitators on July 15, the second drafts on August 15, and the final drafts on September 15. All NECC participants will be compensated for their time.
