Creating a plan for paying for college starts with understanding the costs. The cost of attendance at Northern Essex Community College is primarily based on your residency and on the number of credits in which you are enrolled. Some costs are assessed per credit, and other costs are flat fees based on the number of enrolled credits. For more information on costs related to attending NECC, visit the College Scorecard.

There are a variety of payment options to help you with your college costs, including financial aid, scholarships, and veterans and military benefits. We also offer an installment plan for your convenience.

Tuition

This mandatory charge is assessed for all day, evening, and online scheduled credit courses. The in-state day tuition portion of your bill is remitted to the state of Massachusetts. The remainder is used to help defray the costs associated with general operations of the college.

College Fee

This mandatory per-credit charge is assessed for all day, evening, and online credit courses regardless of residency category and is used to help pay for a variety of academic services, equipment, supplies, and technology expenses.

High Costs Course Fee

This mandatory per-credit non-refundable fee is assessed on specific courses, based on lab component, special equipment, technology, specialized software, or additional personnel, such as laboratory technicians or clinical coordinators, to support instruction. The three levels of fees that are assessed depend on the expenses involved in a course.

If an Online or Hybrid course is NOT on the High Cost Course list, then that course will be charged a High Cost Course Fee of $7.00 per credit. If the Online or Hybrid course is on the High Cost Course list, then the course will be charged the fee as it appears on the list. View the high cost course listing.

Facilities Fee

This mandatory non-refundable fee is charged is charged to all day, evening, and online credit courses to help fund the vast technology changes and upgrades, and the backlog of facilities projects and operational needs.

Registration Fee

This mandatory fee is a non-refundable administrative fee is charged for all day, evening, and online credit courses. It is charged for processing your enrollment and registration.

Blackboard Fee

This mandatory per-credit non-refundable fee is assessed to all day, evening, and online credit courses and is used to help defray the costs associated software and training for online classes.

Student Activity Fee

This mandatory per-credit non-refundable fee is assessed to all day, evening, and online credit courses and is used to support student activities including concerts, guest speakers, orientation, graduation, clubs, and special events.

Health College Fee

The Health programs at NECC are designed for students to be successful in a Health Profession career by providing a more convenient, efficient and supportive environment. The health college fee is mandatory for these courses due to the expenses associated with the use of simulation mannequins, equipment, and other supplies.

Student Health Insurance Fee

Student health insurance coverage is a state requirement for all students enrolled in nine (9) or more credits hours. For insurance purpose, courses comprising the nine credits must be taken concurrently. Learn more about student health insurance.

Other Fees

There are other fees associated with attending NECC, such as course materials, malpractice insurance and test fees. These fees are assessed base on the program of study or course requirement.
