How Tutoring Can Benefit Students

Tutors help students build academic skills and assist them in areas they struggle in, while preparing them with improved work and study skills. The extra layer of preparation and confidence students gain through tutoring will increase their overall academic achievement.

To make an appointment for in-person or virtual tutoring:

  • Go to Navigate by logging into the app (search for Navigate Student in the Google Play or Apple App Store) and clicking on “Appointments” or log into Navigate on a computer by signing into myNECC and clicking on “Navigate Student”
  • For virtual and in-person appointments select one of our four locations (even if you will be attending the appointment virtually/remotely)
  • Under Meeting Type choose virtual or in-person.  You will receive a confirmation email regarding your appointment.

Note: Students are allotted one visit per day, per tutoring subject.

ThinkingStorm

ThinkingStorm is an academic support program that gives all NECC students 24/7 online tutoring in a variety of subjects.

To access ThinkingStorm go to your Blackboard page. There will be a link to ThinkingStorm in the lower left corner. Click on login to ThinkingStorm and you will see the tutoring options.

ThinkingStorm is an academic support program that gives students online access to live, one-to-one assistance from trained and qualified tutors. ThinkingStorm is offered to NECC students at no additional cost.

  1. Log into MyNECC Portal and sign into your NECC Blackboard account.
  2. In the top right corner of your Blackboard account, select the tab for “Student Resources.”
  3. Click on the link for ThinkingStorm and you will automatically be logged into your account.

There is a variety of subjects available for students to access for online tutoring support, including math, statistics, writing, science, health sciences, business, and specialty topics (computer applications, computer programming, and software).

Please note: Online writing support occurs asynchronously by uploading assignment drafts and receiving feedback through email. Online tutoring support for health science, business and other specialty topics are available in the system by appointment only.

Students are limited to 5 hours of free online ThinkingStorm tutoring per semester. Please use your time wisely. If you have exceeded the maximum, you will receive a message to contact the Tutoring Center.

Can’t make it to the tutoring center but still need help? As an NECC student, you also have access to ThinkingStorm Online Tutoring.

Accommodations and Access Requests
