Step 2: Take the ESL Test

  • Submit the Test Request Form to schedule an appointment. Select ESL Testing (LOEP, Writing).

  • After the test, an ESL advisor will contact you by phone to discuss your results, assess your listening & speaking level, and explain the next steps.

  • Complete NECC’s Virtual New Student Orientation and Advising Program (or Orientación Estudiantil de NECC en Español).
  • After you finish the orientation, complete the Orientation Completion Survey (at the bottom of the orientation website). Then a staff member will contact you to schedule a Virtual Advising Appointment to help you register for classes.

What Do I Need for Enrollment into Academic ESL Classes at NECC?

In order to take Academic ESL classes at NECC, you must have (1) a high school diploma or GED, (2) a completed college application, and (3) at least Intermediate scores on all parts of the NECC ESL Placement test.

ESL Classes are online or partially online in Summer and Fall 2021. Classes have morning and evening meeting options.

Here are three different ways to show that your English proficiency is appropriate for college work:

  1. A TOEFL iBT score of 41 or higher
  2. A Duolingo English Test score of 70 or higher
  3. Take the NECC Placement Test in the Assessment Center if you are already in the United States.

Students are charged the regular credit hour rates of the college in ESL courses. Further information can be obtained from the Bursar’s Office. 978- 556-3900.
